In certain industries such as aged care, hospitals and varying hospitality businesses disinfection is a requirement by law. These sites require that their laundry be free from pathogens and infections so they can maintain high cleanliness and hygiene standards.

When it comes to laundry there are two ways to achieve disinfection. The first of these is thermal disinfection which can be achieve through heating elements in the washers that bring the temperature up to a certain degree and holding in there for a minimum amount of time. Our industrial washing machines are great at achieving this and can be programmed accordingly.

Unfortunately the commercial units lack the heating elements and require hot water from the incoming water supply to achieve any form of heat yet this is not good enough for thermal disinfection. The second form of disinfection is chemical, it involves injecting chemicals directly into the washer bath to break down these pathogens. Thankfully, commercial units are capable of achieving this through third party pump injection systems but the pitfall still is that some chemicals require a certain temperature to activate which may not be achieved simply by the hot water coming in.

Now if you have a site or facility with the right space, power and capacity needs for industrial equipment then industrial equipment would be the way to go however some business and sites might be one or more of the following for an industrial washer;

• The laundry area is too small
• They don’t have the power requirements or are unable to get them
• They don’t have the budget for larger equipment
• The amount of laundry does not justify owning and industrial machine
  
  

If any of the above is true then you may want to look at option C which is ozone disinfection which has been used in the laundry industry for quite a while now.
